C.A.R. Lambly (1826-1907)
Charles Anderson Richard Lambly was a civil engineer by profession. After living at Enderby for a few years, he sold his property and served on survey work on the main line of the C.P.R. On returning to the Okanagan Valley, he engaged in horse ranching. Lambly sold this property to J. M. Robinson, who, after tasting Lambly’s peaches, wanted to turn the ranch into an orchard tract. Robinson appropriately named the district Peachland.
Lambly then entered the civil service and served as Government Agent at Rock Creek, Camp McKinney, Osoyoos, and Fairview. He came to Osoyoos in 1892, remaining there until the office was moved to Fairview in 1898. In 1897, Lambly married Hester Haynes, daughter of J.C. Haynes.
The creek on the west side of Okanagan Lake opposite Kelowna known as Bear Creek had its name officially changed to Lambly Creek in 1922 by order of the Geographic Board of Canada.
